As a part of the global strategy to increase its participation in the high margin / high value advanced markets of US and EU, Lupin over the years created the right
infrastructure by upgrading its facilities to globally accredited regulatory standards and invested in research and development to introduce a product pipeline specific
to the market requirements. Further, to strengthen its US focus, a wholly owned subsidiary Lupin Pharmaceutical, Inc. (LPI) was incorporated in the US.
Till date, Lupin has introduced its first generic-Cefuroxime Axetil tablets and its first branded Suprax® Dry suspension in the US market.
As a part of the generic business in the US, Lupin has entered into an alliance with Watson Pharmaceutical Inc. to market its Cefuroxime Axetil Tablet in the US. It
has also entered into an agreement with Baxter Healthcare Corporation, where by the latter will exclusively distribute the company’s generic version of Ceftriaxone
sterile vials for injection in the US post patent approval (July 19, 2005). Besides it has received approvals for Cefixime tablets as well as Cefotaxime vials for
injection.
As a part of the branded strategy, Lupin Pharmaceutical, Inc. introduced its first brand Suprax® Dry Suspension (licensed from Fujisawa) promoted by its pediatric
focused sales force. Besides, it has also entered in a co-promotion agreement for Suprax® with Cornerstone BioPharma, Inc. with a focus on primary care
physicians. The company targets to increase its product offering in both the generic and specialty segments through in-house product development from it research
program in both the US and European markets.
